Nominator's rationale: "ancient" does not need a capital letter in the middle of a phrase (see cases "in ancient Greece" at Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Log/2018 July 16). Delete According to my clicking through the infoboxes, Legion of Merit is above this award, and Defense Superior Service Medal is above that, and Silver Star, is above that and from there it branches by service but for the Air Force Air Force Distinguished Service Medal is above that, and various ones are above that including Defense Distinguished Service Medal, and again following the Air Force route Air Force Cross (United States) is above that and finally we get to the Medal of Honor which is the top award and certainly defining. Delete: This award is not the equivalent of the UK DFC. For fighter pilots at least, the UK DFC is fairly similar to the Silver Star, and the DSO is comparable to the US DSC. In WWII, although it depended on the theatre, the US DFC was often awarded just for flying missions and/or completing one's combat tour. "A combat veteran of the [8th Air Force] could come home with an Air Medal with three clusters plus a Distinguished Flying Cross after 25 missions." (pursuant to competent performance, but without doing anything noteworthy.) "The pilot [also bombardier, and sometimes navigator] of the lead aircraft would be ordinarily considered for an award of the DFC for his skill in handling the aircraft."
